The Haxenbraterei at Oktoberfest
Hochreiter's Haxenbraterei has been a permanent institution at Munich's Oktoberfest since 1979 and is considered a true insider tip for anyone looking for the authentic Wiesn feeling. The small, cozy dining tent between the Hacker and Hofbräu tents is all about crispy grilled pork and veal knuckles — prepared according to an old family recipe and publicly praised by celebrity chef Alfons Schuhbeck.
Guests can watch the chefs and grill specialists at work directly through a window. Around 10,000 knuckles are consumed here per season — that speaks for itself. During the day, the family atmosphere is perfect for a relaxed lunch visit, even with children. The Löwenbräu Oktoberfest beer rounds out the experience. No dancing on tables here — this is a place for feasting.

Food & Drink
The Haxenbraterei stands for one thing above all: crispy grilled pork knuckle made from an old family recipe. Every knuckle is stored, seasoned, and freshly grilled on-site — crisp on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. Alongside the pork knuckle, the menu also features veal knuckle, boiled beef, coachman's goulash, and other Bavarian classics. Vegetarians will find cheese spätzle and chanterelles in herb cream. To drink: Löwenbräu Oktoberfest beer and Franziskaner wheat beer — both fresh from the tap.
Music & Atmosphere
The Haxenbraterei is deliberately not a loud party tent, but a cozy dining tent with genuine Wiesn charm. During the day, the atmosphere is quiet and family-friendly — ideal for a relaxed lunch. In the evenings, two bands play daily from 12 noon onward for traditional entertainment. The special highlight: guests can watch the chefs grill through a window — an experience unique to the Haxenbraterei. Coziness, quality, and tradition are front and center here.
