The Traditional Festival Tent at Oktoberfest

The Tradition Festzelt at the Oidn Wiesn is exactly what its name promises: a place where visitors can experience Munich’s Oktoberfest the way it used to be. Operated by the Winklhofer and Wieser festival host families, the largest tent at the Oidn Wiesn offers space for all generations with 5,000 indoor seats and 2,700 seats in the beer garden.

Beer is still served from wooden barrels in traditional stone mugs – just as it was in the old days. A lemonade fountain and a dedicated dance floor complete the nostalgic Oktoberfest experience.

Food & Drinks

At the Tradition Festzelt, classic Bavarian specialties take center stage – freshly prepared and served with great attention to detail. The beer is poured from wooden barrels into traditional stone mugs, giving it an especially smooth and mellow taste. In addition to Oktoberfest classics such as roast chicken and crispy pork knuckle, vegetarian options and discounted weekday lunch specials are also available. Unlike many other festival tents, reservations do not require a minimum spend – a rare and family-friendly feature at the Wiesn.

Live Music & Atmosphere

At the Tradition Festzelt, only authentic Bavarian brass music is played – no party anthems or international pop hits. Traditional costume clubs and marksmen’s groups set the tone, creating a warm and genuinely Bavarian atmosphere. A dedicated dance floor invites guests to enjoy traditional folk dances such as the Schuhplattler, while the nostalgic rides of the Oidn Wiesn nearby add to the unique charm. If you want to experience Oktoberfest in its most original and traditional form, this is the perfect place to be.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About the Festzelt Tradition

Everything you need to know about the Festzelt Tradition at Oktoberfest

The Festzelt Tradition is cozier, more family-friendly, and more traditional than the rest of the Wiesn. The focus is on Oktoberfest atmosphere as it used to be: Bavarian hospitality, authentic folk music, and folk dancing.

First set up in 2010 as the "Historic Beer Tent" as part of the "Historic Wiesn" to celebrate 200 years of Oktoberfest. The response was so enthusiastic that the city council decided to keep the "Oide Wiesn" as a permanent fixture. Since 2011 the tent has been known as "Festzelt Tradition."

The tent is run by the Winklhofer and Wieser host families — for all ages, the whole family, and anyone who wants to enjoy authentic folk music and folk dancing.

Each day the program is shaped by a different Bavarian traditional costume association, featuring folk music, folk dancing, Schuhplattler, Goaßlschnalzer, and many other cultural highlights on two dance floors inside and outside the tent.

Traditional costume and heritage associations, locals who simply want to relax over an Augustiner from a stone mug, and guests seeking an authentic Bavarian cultural experience. There is even a dedicated Munich allocation that can only be reserved in person at the Ratskeller at Marienplatz.

People dance on the dance floor here, not on the benches. The atmosphere is relaxed, seats are often available without a reservation, and there is no minimum spend for reservations — a rarity at Oktoberfest that makes it a particularly easygoing destination.
