The Augustiner Tent at Oktoberfest
The Augustiner-Bräu Festzelt is one of the most popular and traditional beer tents at Munich’s Oktoberfest. Its origins date back to 1898, when the Augustiner brewery first operated its own tent on the Wiesn. It is named after Munich’s oldest brewery, founded in 1328. Today, the tent is run by the Vollmer family, who have represented authentic Bavarian festival culture and warm hospitality for decades.
A special feature that sets the Augustiner tent apart from all others is the way the beer is served: the Augustiner Oktoberfest beer is still traditionally tapped from wooden barrels—so-called “Hirschen” (200-liter barrels). The beer has an alcohol content of around 6–7% and is known for its especially smooth, malty, and well-balanced taste, often regarded by many Wiesn visitors as the best on the festival grounds.
The tent offers around 6,000 indoor seats and approximately 2,500 seats in its cozy beer garden. The atmosphere is comparatively relaxed and family-friendly, attracting both locals and international guests who value tradition and authenticity. Instead of an exaggerated party atmosphere, the focus here is on brass band music, sociability, and genuine Oktoberfest spirit.
