The Schottenhamel Festival Tent at Oktoberfest
The Schottenhamel Festival Hall is the oldest tent at the Munich Oktoberfest — what began in 1867 as a small wooden stall with 50 seats has grown into one of the largest festival tents, accommodating around 10,000 guests. For over 150 years, the Schottenhamel family has pursued the same goal: to give their guests a taste of Bavarian cuisine, the Wiesn spirit, and a sense of home.
The "Schott'n" is where the festival officially kicks off every year: at exactly 12 noon, the Mayor of Munich taps the first barrel of beer here — only after that are the other tents allowed to start serving. This unique opening ritual makes Schottenhamel one of the most significant and unforgettable venues of the entire Oktoberfest.
