The Tent Boandlkramerei at Oktoberfest
Since 2024, the Boandlkramerei is the newest musicians' tent at the Oide Wiesn — and has quickly become a genuine insider tip. The name comes from the Bavarian folk tale "Die Gschicht vom Brandner Kasper": the Boandlkramer, which is the Bavarian word for Death, is tricked by the cunning Kasper and gets him drunk on cherry schnapps — a story full of humor, joie de vivre, and Bavarian wit. This very spirit defines the tent.
Run by the experienced host family Peter and Petra Schöniger, the Boandlkramerei combines Bavarian tradition with a modern music program. Under the artistic direction of Winfried Frey, established folk music legends perform alongside young, up-and-coming talent — a vibrant stage for authentic local sounds. A visit to the Oide Wiesn without a stop at the Boandlkramerei? Unthinkable!

Food & Drink
The Boandlkramerei places great emphasis on the highest culinary quality and genuine sustainability. Vegetables are grown exclusively by farmers from the Munich area to organic Bavarian standards — from the very first seed to harvest, specifically for the tent. The menu offers a hearty selection of Bavarian classics: from crispy organic pork knuckle to beef goulash, beef roulade, and Viennese veal schnitzel. Vegetarians and vegans are also very well catered for. Served alongside is the beloved Augustiner beer fresh from wooden barrels — a true Wiesn treat.
Music & Ambiance
The music program of the Boandlkramerei is unique on the Oide Wiesn. Under the artistic direction of Winfried Frey — known as an actor, director, and radio presenter on Bayern 1 — established folk music greats and young talents take turns on stage. The seating boxes are oriented directly toward the stage so guests can be right in the middle of the musical action. During the day, authentic local folk sounds fill the air; in the evenings, the atmosphere builds with rousing melodies. Music that comes from the heart — for guests who seek something genuine.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About the Boandlkramerei Festzelt
Everything you need to know about the Boandlkramerei Festzelt at Oktoberfest
Named after the Boandlkramer, a Bavarian name for Death — known from the 2008 film "Die Geschichte vom Brandner Kaspar" featuring Michael "Bully" Herbig. Guests are welcomed into a heavenly atmosphere that uniquely combines Bavarian tradition and enjoyment — a place to celebrate life to the fullest.
Since 2024, the Boandlkramerei has been located on the Oide Wiesn — the historic part of Oktoberfest with nostalgic rides and a quieter atmosphere. It replaced the Herzkasperlzelt; Peter Schöniger received approval from Munich city council for his concept.
Host family Peter and Petra Schöniger bring 33 years of folk festival experience. Well known for the Festhalle Bayernland at the Munich Spring Festival, they have been a fixture at Oktoberfest since 1992 with their own sausage stand.
The tent offers 1,750 seats indoors and a further 1,100 in the beer garden. The interior resembles an old inn, with raised boxes for a good view of the stage, a blue and yellow ceiling, and wooden seating.
Yes, guests can dine undisturbed at their table or join in the dancing — entirely as they wish. The quiet location on the Oide Wiesn and traditional atmosphere make the tent an ideal daytime destination for all generations.
As a "musicians' tent with heritage, tradition, and culture," folk music takes center stage. The boxes face the stage for maximum closeness to the performance. Certifications such as Bio Bayern, Naturland, and Öko-Profit reflect a commitment to environmental responsibility and the preservation of Bavarian traditions.
