The Armbrustschützen Tent at Oktoberfest
The Armbrustschützen tent is one of the most traditional festival tents at Munich’s Oktoberfest, with a history spanning more than 130 years. What began in 1895 as the first tent of the “Winzerer Fähndl” crossbow guild—initially serving marksmen and hosting championships—has developed into one of the most distinctive large tents on the Theresienwiese. The tent has stood at its current location on Wirtsbudenstraße 107 since 1965.
Today, the tent is run by the Peter and Katharina Inselkammer family, who have stood for Bavarian hospitality and culinary quality since 1990. The Inselkammers—a long-established Munich family of entrepreneurs who also operate the Platzl Hotel in the heart of the old town—are committed to ensuring that the Armbrustschützen tent remains an authentically Bavarian and tradition-conscious beer tent at Oktoberfest.
Unlike most other Oktoberfest tents, the Armbrustschützen tent features a truly unique facility: its own crossbow shooting range with 30-meter lanes, where the German Crossbow Championships have been held annually since 1935. While this area is not accessible to regular guests, the spirit of the marksmen’s tradition shapes the entire tent—from the eagle above the main entrance to the marksman figure atop the tower.
